The Council of Ministers has given the green light at its meeting today at the emergency works to reinforce the tunnel of Oak in the Upper Canal Taibilla in the town of Moratalla (Murcia).
The planned investment for the repair of this infrastructure is 4 million euros.
Oak Tunnel, located in the Upper Canal Taibilla, facilitates the crossing of the Sierra del Cerezo de Moratalla continuously since its commissioning in 1945.
The detection of damage and cracking of the coating to about 400 meters from the mouth of the tunnel and over a length of 600 meters are advised to undertake the relevant work to prevent a possible collapse of the tunnel could jeopardize the essential service water supply several municipalities in the province of Murcia and Alicante.
The location of the tunnel Oak High Taibilla Channel is part of the head of a supply system that provides supply to 77 municipalities in the province of Murcia and Alicante.
It is the only infrastructure for water supply to a number of municipalities (Moratalla, Calasparra, Caravaca, Cehegín, Bullas, Mula, Campos del Rio, Albudeite, Pliego, Alhama de Murcia and booklets) that bring together a population of approximately 300,000.
