Jesus Lopez, who gave the press conference accompanied by the local mayor, Juan Llorente, explained that Moratalla, with 954 Km2, is the second largest municipality in area in the region of Murcia, with Jumilla.
However, its total population is only 8,424 inhabitants, distributed in 13 states according to the nomenclature, although the number of populated areas is actually over 40.
Much higher cost
This has the consequence that the cost for the provision of basic services is much higher than that of any other municipality in the Region of Murcia and the criteria for allocation of regular funds, a municipal by various administrations, do not take account the factors that complicate the management of this City.
"Therefore it is necessary to compensate for this situation to enable municipal management in Moratalla."
The socialist parliamentarian stated that, on the other hand, the town of Moratalla territorialized investment in the 2010 budget is below the regional average of 114 euros per inhabitant, ie it is 332 euros per inhabitant, compared to EUR 446 per capita regional average.
For Jesus Lopez this issue is "not merely a statistical problem, but the result of a land policy that is committed to correcting imbalances."
