First centuries of printing in Murcia. "
This exhibition, organized by the Regional Library, whose curators are Cristina and Amparo Pascual Herrero García Cuadrado (Teachers College of Communication and Information Studies, University of Murcia), offers a tour of the printing material from Murcia since 1484, when the first incunabula, to 1800.
Since Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable type printing in the fifteenth century, art print became the main tool for cultural dissemination of the history of mankind.
Its rapid expansion that radically transformed Europe and facilitated access to knowledge previously reserved for the few.
In short time this innovation came to Spain print shops opening in major cities throughout the country, and Murcia was no exception.
The proposal presented in this exhibition is an enjoyable way to tour the history of this art, this industry in our region, its evolution over four centuries and, particularly, about the life of our ancestors, as printed and society as well as printing and knowledge are inevitably linked concepts.
Thus, in this exhibition are invited to the contemplation of bibliographic treasures, to explore the technical development of the publishing industry, to appreciate their aesthetic development, to know the topics of greatest interest to readers of every age and enjoy the secrets enclose each of the books exhibited.
