The Socialist deputy for the constituency of North West, Jesus Lopez, has asked the Regional Assembly to the Ministry of Culture a study of the characteristics, history, typology and constituents of the Wheel of Salmon.
The aim is to deepen the knowledge of traditional uses of water in Vega Alta del Segura and determine the measures to be taken to conserve it.
Lopez said the alluvial soil, caused by the action of the river Segura have been use by humans since it is known agricultural techniques.
"The many valleys of the Segura River and its tributaries are the result of the cultural processes of learning farming techniques that have allowed the development of local economies and have adjusted the coastal settlement patterns in the river Segura."
The first of the Region
The core of Salmon in the town of Moratalla, is the first vega del Segura in the province of Murcia, just few meters from the core separate hellineros of Mines by the river Segura.
The deputy argued in his motion that in the first meadow there is a Ferris wheel, which is the first in the region upstream of the river Segura.
The wheel of Salmon is a capital asset of the Region of Murcia, filed by the Directorate General of Culture (now the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage).
He is currently serving part of its function of raising and distributing water among users, which has not stopped is in a state of disrepair, so the ultimate goal is to be restored.
