IU-Greens Moratalla has filed claims against the granting of the license to prospect for hydrocarbons called "Aquarius" in the towns of Moratalla, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegín and Bullas, using the technique of hydraulic fracturing or "fracking".
The letter, which responds to the recommendations of the 'Segura Basin Royalty Fracking' platform and has been directed to the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Innovation, poses "significant risks" of hydraulic fracturing for health and the environment .
So, warns that one of the "most relevant" is the dangers of pollution of groundwater and surface water, which is especially relevant in the case of the region, as the area affected by the permissions sits on aquifers.
IU-Greens also warned of the toxic risk of the more than 500 chemicals used fracking, of which 17 have been classified as toxic to aquatic organisms, seven elements are mutagenic, eight and six suspected carcinogens proven to be.
It has also drawn attention to the high consumption of water, the increase in the number of earthquakes and the condition of nearby towns as well as the health risk by the volatility of the toxic chemical additives used fracking.
He also noted that the area of ​​Aquarius permission directly affects five protected areas included in the Natura 2000 Network.
