Plan integrated management of protected areas Natura 2000 Northwest Region of Murcia (26/02/2013)

Yesterday afternoon the Mayor of Moratalla, Antonio Garcia Rodriguez, with the Aldermen of Environment, Planning and Juan Soria, Ventura Guerrero, accompanied by municipal technicians of these two areas, held a meeting at DG Environment, attended by the Director-General himself, Amador Lopez and a number of technical officials who have been involved in drafting the Comprehensive Management Plan for the Natura 2000 Protected Areas of the North West Region of Murcia, to address different aspects of this Plan significantly affect the agriculture, livestock, tourism, industrial, mining, urban, etc., the town of Moratalla.

The Natura 2000 network, based on two types of protection, Lic and Zepa, Zepa and Zec currently adopted by the European Union over a dozen years ago, lacked a management plan that would arbitrate permitted and prohibited activities in these areas, pending imposed by the European Union to the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia now must approve.

This Management Plan, with a term of initially six years, has raised alarm among some landowners, farmers, prompting the mayor to convene Moratalla, on January 30, in the Town Hall Auditorium, a briefing with all concerned.

The meeting was also attended by experts from the Directorate General for the Environment.

Following the presentation made by municipal technicians of his vision of the Plan and by the intervention of the audience and representatives of business groups, was completed with the technicians of the Environment that all allegations that come to this Department would be taken into account .

Also was offered to all concerned, by the Mayor of Moratalla, that during the period of the Plan claims, even after overstaying, municipal technical services, were available to all stakeholders, to provide information regarding specify the time to help them make their claims and channel Management Plan, with many people who have used this service.

It is noteworthy that the 48'39% of the municipal territory is affected by the Natura 2000 network, ie 46,522 ha, and the Management Plan covers 83% of the total area of ​​the municipality, taking into account the Connectivity and buffer areas defining said Plan.

In the working session yesterday afternoon, municipal representatives and put forward the criterion remained at the previous meeting, in the sense that the current General Plan of Municipal Management Moratalla, and is sufficiently restrictive and conservative Environment, while allowing citizens living in rural areas and the owners of the land, able to carry out normal tasks for hundreds of years been developing their ancestors and have enabled the degree of conservation of these territories with the we have today.

Aspects related to agriculture, livestock, rural communities, rural tourism, planning and action units, industry, rural electrification, traditional mining, etc., Were discussed and presented to representatives of the Environment, under the current PGMO, who took note of the signs made with the intention of studying and output, as far as possible, with the objectives of the Plan.

Finally, the meeting concluded with a summary of the Director General of all the talk and the request of the Mayor of Moratalla, Antonio Garcia Rodriguez, that when the final text is available, once referred to the allegations made, they can access the same prior to the approval of the Autonomous Community.
