Under the project VILLAGES (www.villages-net.eu), Moratalla City Council has participated in an international meeting for the development of rural communities in the Mediterranean, held in Palestine during the penultimate week of January.
The areas that has worked directly Moratalla are agriculture and enterprise development related to olive oil, tourism and cultural development, improving local governance systems in rural areas.
This event, organized by JUHOUD, Palestinian partner in the Villages project, in collaboration with ICALPE, project leader, was opened by a representative of the Palestinian National Authority and broadcast on Palestinian national television.
The work consisted of a series of meetings between the various international teams and key local actors of various municipal bodies in the area of ​​Birzeit, the Palestinian territories, with the aim of carrying out an analysis that would lead to specific development proposals area, on one hand, and the establishment of a network to exchange experiences and knowledge on both sides of the Mediterranean, on the other.
After these days of discussion and analysis in the field with the local population, were presented and discussed in open session the main conclusions and proposals.
This event was also attended by the representative of the program ENPI (European Neighbourhood and Partnership), which funds the project VILLAGES, a representative of the Office of the European Union in the Palestinian Territory, and a representative of the American Foundation for the Youth, who presented their main activities in the area and offered to assist with the project.
In this sense, capacity and networking Moratalla City Council has also been reinforced by experts from Greece, France and Italy who also collaborated on the event and also studied the possibilities of collaboration in future projects.
Importantly, this innovative methodology experts exchange "Countryside Exchange", successfully tested in the U.S. and northern Europe, has proved to be the germ of future international cooperation and joint projects.
From this meeting in Palestine, are being studied and real opportunities for the City to collaborate on public exchanges and projects of socio-economic and cultural work is under Villages Network.
The project VILLAGES "Savoir-Faire Transfert en Méditerranée pour le Développement Durable des Commnutautés Défavorisées Estate in Rural Zones" (Exchange of Good Practices in the Mediterranean for the development of local communities in disadvantaged rural areas), forms part of the priority 4 .

Promotes VILLAGES, through the creation of a multisectoral partnership, improving the living conditions of local communities in disadvantaged rural areas of the Mediterranean, providing tools to create their own systems of governance and develop its capabilities as catalysts of local development processes.
