City of Moratalla]

In relation to reports in various media on investment cuts being implemented by the Regional Government and to the possible cancellation / suspension of some public works whose execution was scheduled for this term, including the improvement of the road Benizar -Moratalla, amounting to 582,000 euros.

The City Council would make the following ratings:

- There is no official record that this work will be paralyzed.

After reading the news in the media, the Mayor immediately contacted the Ecxmo.

Mr. Minister of Public Works and Planning of the CARM, D.

Sevilla Antonio Recio, to collect information on the subject.

In that conversation the Hon.

Mr. Director said that no decision about it, and that everything depends on the settings that are imposed from central government.

- The adequacy of this road, along with the MU-703 (Moratalla - Campo de San Juan), are top priorities of the local government team, as there are all sorts of reasons amply justify:

In general, our town presents a number of serious deficiencies and needs for infrastructure and communications, imposed not only by the current economic situation, which is compounding the problems characteristic of disadvantaged rural areas, but also by the orography and territorial Moratalla, with a multitude of villages scattered along more than 950 km2, and over 400 km.

highways and rural roads.

These two roads require urgent and immediate action by the deterioration presented by both the conservation status of the firm, as the track configuration.

What has been repeatedly claimed in recent years, not only by the City, but also by the residents and users who daily pass these roads.

In the case of road Benizar - Moratalla, the appalling conditions under which the section is intended to be put, are causing serious damage, not only in terms of basic infrastructure needs and communication between citizens and families and Benizar neighboring nuclei, or those who are in our territory, but also to our entire socio-economic fabric, as Benizar is the largest center of population, after Town Moratalla, in our Municipality and one of the most frequented by tourists Interior.

To this we must add important safety reasons, since the current route is extremely dangerous to not allow the crossing of vehicles due to its narrowness, there having been numerous accidents in recent years.

This Team, representing the municipality of Moratalla and its districts, states its total opposition to the possible suspension of this work, which undoubtedly would constitute an unfair decision, by damaging one of the most deprived areas and worse communicated Region, with rates of unemployment, poverty and depopulation, well above the regional average, and totally arbitrary given the objective necessity of improving this road taking the risk, status and characteristics of the current path.

Finally, from the local government team, we urge the Regional Government to consider these ratings as well as the need for this work, the benefit of all citizens of the Region of Murcia, regardless of population size and number of inhabitants, or rural or peripheral character.
