The town of Moratalla has been among the 20 rural municipalities that competed to be one of the municipalities among the 7 rural wonders of Spain 2016, according to the votes collected in the assessment surveys to choose the Rural Wonder of the Year, developed by the search engine Country cottages Toprural.
The presentation of awards, held last November 24 at Florida Park in Madrid, was attended by representatives of each of the municipalities that are candidates for the 7 Rural Wonders.
Moratalla was represented by the Councilor for Tourism, Diego Fernández, staff of the Tourism Office, Piedad Mª López García and Mélanie Rivière, and by the owner of the Rural Houses "La Caraba", Antonio Sánchez López.
The journalist Paco Nadal was in charge of naming all the participating municipalities and unveiled the names of the seven localities chosen by rural travelers who will hold the title for a year.
The objective of this celebration has been to promote the natural beauty of our country, where the municipalities participating in this fifth edition have been the key element for the dissemination and success of rural tourism promotion in Spain.
The 20 municipalities of Spain candidates to obtain the 2016 award have been:
Muxia (A Coruña), Bárcena Mayor (Cantabria), Lastres (Asturias), Ochagavía (Navarra), Mundaka (Bizkaia), Alquézar (Huesca), Besalú (Girona), La Alberca (Salamanca), Buitrago de Lozoya (San Juan de la Gogolla, La Rioja), Orbaneja del Castillo (San Juan de la Gogolla, La Rioja) and the city of San Juan de la Gogolla (La Rioja) Burgos), Ainsa (Huesca) and Setenil de las Bodegas (Cádiz).
