The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'Granny Smith', an investigation aimed at clarifying a traffic accident in which the driver of a moped was hit and abandoned on the road RM-715, municipality of Moratalla, which has been resolved 48 hours later with the identification, location and detention of the other driver involved, to whom the alleged authorship of the crimes of serious injuries due to imprudence and abandonment of the accident site is attributed.
The events took place on the RM-715 road, which links Caravaca de la Cruz and Socovos (AB), as it passed through Moratalla, when a road accident occurred in the collision between a moped, which circulated with passing priority and which was overwhelmed by a tourism that did not respect the stop sign.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the two-wheeled vehicle was seriously injured, while the tourist driver immediately fled, leaving the wounded to his fate without stopping to provide or claim the necessary assistance.
Alerted to the occurrence of the road accident, the Traffic Operation Center (COTA) of the Civil Guard of Murcia immediately moved to the site a patrol of motorists from the Detachment of Caravaca de la Cruz and a Crowded Team of the Sector of Murcia, who made The first actions, gathering the initial information, practiced the technical-ocular inspection in the scenario of the event and collected testimonies, evidence, vestiges and clues, all with the purpose of clarifying the events that occurred and discovering the alleged person responsible for the outrage.
Since the hours following the production of a crime are very relevant for its clarification, the Benemérita immediately activated the Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group (GIAT) and deployed a large and complex investigative device at the scene of the accident and its surroundings .
These inquiries made it possible to determine, at first, the type of vehicle that caused the accident, and so countless efforts were made to try to locate the vehicle and driver involved.
As a result of the investigation, after just over 48 hours of the event, the Civil Guard completed the operation with the location and seizure of the tourism involved, which presented a series of damages clearly corresponding to the pattern of the damages investigated.
Once the involvement of the aforementioned vehicle was determined, the civil guards located shortly after the driver who was allegedly involved in the sinister, 45-year-old Bulgarian and neighbor of Socovos (Albacete), who, given the evidence provided, ended up acknowledging being the cause of the serious outrage, for which he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of injuries due to serious imprudence and abandonment of the accident site.
The victim was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital in Murcia, where she is still admitted with a reserved prognosis.
The crime of serious negligence with motor vehicle injuries is included in article 152 of the Criminal Code and can be punished with imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds from 1 to 4 years.
In March of this year, a reform was introduced in the Criminal Code that includes a new article 382 bis and sanctions, with prison sentences of 6 months to 4 years and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds from 1 to 4 years , to the driver who, voluntarily and without the risk of his own or third party, leaving the place of the accident in which one or more persons died or were seriously injured
Commendable citizen collaboration
The effective coordination and rapid intervention of the Civil Guard in carrying out the technical-ocular inspection carried out immediately at the scene, together with the commendable citizen collaboration, has allowed an exhaustive and persistent investigation work to be completed that has culminated , in a short space of time, with the arrest and judicial provision of the alleged perpetrator.
In this sense, the Civil Guard appeals to the citizens so that, like this case, when they witness or have knowledge of a traffic accident, take note of the greatest possible number of data, in particular type and characteristics of the vehicle, in particular its registration and communicate to the security forces, with the aim of facilitating police investigation and preventing events as unfortunate as these go unpunished.
The detainee, the proceedings and the vehicle intervened have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia).
