Win Moratalla-IU takes to the full the serious situation of the producers of "bulgarian apricot" (19/06/2018)

The Municipal Group of Win Moratalla-Izquierda Unida in the Town Hall of Moratalla takes to the plenum the feeling of the farmers who demand an intervention of the administration that defends its legitimate interests and its most basic rights.

In its proposal of agreements, it requests that the city council be in solidarity with the people affected by the disastrous apricot campaign (both producers and workers of the collection) and the municipal government to make whatever steps are necessary for their defense.

To the regional and national administrations, I urge you to:

1. Adopt all effective measures to support the agricultural sector producing apricot with industrial purpose, to reverse the situation experienced in the current campaign of 2018.

2. Establish real mechanisms of compensation of the income of the farmers who produce apricot in our municipality and district, so that they can overcome the devastating effects on their respective family economies of the disaster that occurred in this campaign by the establishment of abusively low prices .

3. Implement direct employment policies for people who work as day laborers and day laborers in the apricot harvest, which compensates the salaries and contributions that they will stop receiving due to the loss of jobs that is causing the collapse of prices.

To win Moratalla Izquierda Unida, considers that the disastrous apricot campaign that we are experiencing this year in the municipality of Moratalla, and extendable to the rest of the Northwest region and Río Mula, places the farmers and farmers in a ruinous situation, in addition to suppose a serious problem of loss of wages that attacks the group of workers and precarious workers with lower purchasing power.

Emphasizes that apricot producers of the bulida variety, in most cases workers of the land, see how their efforts and investments in the cultivation of a whole year disappear, following the practice of setting prices in an abusive way. the canning industry that does not even cover production expenses;

since this year there is a brutal fall in the already low prices of fruit.

Only compared to the previous campaign of 2017 the price has fallen by half, placing the first fruit below 30 cents per kilo.

This situation puts the producers and producers of Moratalla in a dead end, in a situation of total defenselessness before those who impose the "laws of the market".

We all know that Moratalla's orchard is characterized by small and medium-sized farms.

In most cases they provide the sustenance of many families and, in others, an essential complement to improve low incomes.

Win Moratalla IU reminds that the Spanish Constitution, which is so invoked when appropriate to certain interests, establishes in Article 128 that "all the wealth of the country in its different forms and whatever its ownership is subordinate to the general interest."

Therefore, it understands that, faced with this situation, the public authorities, which come quickly to the rescue of banks and motorway companies, can not look the other way, while the most vulnerable sector of the economic fabric, producers and producers of traditional agriculture and the workers who spend their few days collecting apricots are in a situation of complete abandonment between the voracity of large companies, many of which are receiving large amounts of public aid, including those of our municipality.

Finally, he hopes that this proposal receives the support of the other political groups of the Moratalla town hall and, at the same time, defends itself from all the town councils of the Comerca del Noroeste and Río Mula.
